_ bronzeville poetry project --- 2006

In May of 2006 poet Amanda Leigh Lichtenstein partnered with 3rd grade teacher Lauren Lauter in a text and image project centering around the works of poet Gwendolyn Brooks, who once said that “to write a poem, all you have to do is look out your window.” 3rd graders read and wrote poems about the experience of growing up in the renowned Chicago neighborhood of Bronzeville and used photographs as a way into the poetics of their everyday lives.

This project was in partnership with the Donoghue Charter School, University of Chicago
